The disc can be used with central venous catheters (CVC), peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and around external fixation devices. The disc works by managing moisture and bacteria in the dressing concurrently. The foam dressing absorbs exudates while Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB) (a strong but safe antiseptic) targets and kills bacteria on contact. The disc helps protect the patient from catheter related bloodstream infections and harmful bacteria such as MRSA and VRE. Using a foam disc helps limit cross contamination.
