The Quidel Corporation Solana HSV 1+2 /VZV Startup Kit is a self-contained package for diagnosing and differentiating Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and 2 and Varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The kit offers rapid and reliable results through a CLIA moderately-complex procedure that requires minimal training.

Simplified Workflow The Solana startup kit follows a procedure segmented into distinct and uncomplicated steps. The included text provides straightforward, visualized guidance for sampling and processing. All basic material requirements are included in the package. Furthermore, sample analysis is done with the included Solana instrument, removing the need for other specialized laboratory equipment.

Multiplex In Vitro Assay The Solana tester operates in a two-step process, starting with (1) sample preparation and then (2) amplification and detection. This works on the principle of finding nucleic acids of HSV and VZV isolated from cutaneous and mucocutaneous swabs and refined through a process of Helicase-Dependent Amplification (HDA) in the presence of a target-specific fluorescence probe. Competitive process control is included to ensure the processing validity of the specimen.
