The XTRASORB Classic Dressing is used for heavy and extra heavy exuding wounds. The dressing is made from a lower tensile strength gelling super absorbent polymer pad, which immediately converts into a gel as fluid enters the dressing. The dressing features flat edges that conform well to healthy skin making application easy. The non-adhesion layer of the dressing prevents it from sticking to the wound bed. The super absorbent polymers in the core of the dressing allow for large amounts of exudates to be absorbed, which then form into a gel that binds and locks the exudates away from the wound. A distribution layer distributes the exudates evenly through the dressing to be absorbed by the absorbent layer. The wound is protected from the fluid since it is locked within the absorbent sheet, away from the wound and surrounding tissue. This reduces maceration and contact from hurtful components of wound fluid like bacteria and proteases. A blue strike through layer protects sheets and clothing from soiling.
